In this unit I learnt there are three different ways to evaluate students. There are tutorials which usually are done at the end of the week and are used to review what the students have learnt and how well they have preformed different language tasks. Evaluation by the student is the second method that can be used and this allows the student to evaluate what they have learnt themselves, which means that as well as discovering what they may not know it allows the students to give their own opinions on the lessons. The final form of evaluation i learnt about was tests and how they are used in the formal evaluation of students. Placement tests are used to place a student in the correct class with similar language abilities. Progress tests are used to find out what the students have retained and where more work needs to be done. Diagnostic tests are similar to placement tests but are usually more extensive enabling a teacher to prepare the correct classes for the students. Practice tests are done by students to prepare them for external examinations. Finally I learnt about all the different examinations used around the world such as the different Cambridge examinations and TEOFL.
