I learned the importance of the productive skills which include speaking and writing; these skills are vital for communication. It is interesting to note some of the flaws that speaking and writing may have in the classroom. Writing is oftentimes relegated to homework, thus decreasing the time for \"on the spot\" corrections from the teachers. This increases the possibilities of negligence when it comes to writing as students may not hand in or do their homework. Speaking, on the other hand, will get more attention and feedback inside the classroom but since it requires a greater degree of fluency, the students will rarely have time to think and plan an answer, whereas for writing, you have the leisure of time. I also learned the difference between accuracy and fluency activities. The former, usually part of the study phase, concentrates on producing the 'correct' language, mostly in a controlled environment. It is important to make sure that students can understand properly the language being used. The latter, usually part of the activate stage, concentrates on the effectiveness and flow of the communication; here, students are urged to experiment and be creative with the language.
