This unit outlined the different qualities a teacher requires and the different roles a teacher needs to take on. In addition, the unit outlined different motivations, experiences and behaviours of learners, depending on the age group of the learner, and on the qualities a good learner needs. Finally, the unit outlined the different levels of language teaching, ranging from true starter to advanced. I found it useful to have some time spent on the different levels of learners (beginner, intermediate etc) and in conjunction with the comments on different types of learners, and different skills of teachers, I am already thinking about which different teaching methods may be best for each different stage of learning. I think for me what was most useful in this unit was the discussion of the different roles of the teacher. Whilst studying these different roles, I realised that some roles will come more easily to me than others. My experience to date is of a smaller group so roles like participation, tutor and facilitation are ones I am comfortable. However I have less experience of manager and organiser roles and that is something I hope to improve on as I study the future units.
