This unit discusses evaluation and testing of students. Three types of evaluation are listed as tutorials, evaluation by students, and tests. Tutorials are used to review lessons and provide feedback to students about their progress and difficulties. Feedback from students can be obtained from written surveys to provide information about progress and difficulties from the students' point of view. Tests can be used for a variety of purposes. Placement tests may be given at the start of a class to determine the skill level of the students. An example placement exam is presented. Diagnostic tests may be given at the start of a class to provide information of the students' strengths and weaknesses to help the teacher plan the curriculum. Progress tests may be given throughout the course to motivate students to review and to keep track of student progress and difficulties. Practice tests may also be given throughout the course to prepare students for a proficiency exam. This may be a final exam for the course or an external exam, which may be required for acceptance to a university or employment. Several examples of external exams are listed.
