In this lesson, I reviewed the parts of speech of the English language and its subclasses. Nouns are the words that name things, people, places, animals, etc. They can change to a plural form, adding an s, which indicates the existence of more than one thing, place, etc. Nouns are divided in countable and uncountable, showing if they can or not be counted. Adjectives describe nouns. When using more than one adjective, the speaker should use particular orders. They change in comparisons; these are the comparative and superlative forms. Articles designate if a word is a part of a group or if we are talking about something specifically. Verbs are a complex group of words that describe actions and states. Adverbs describe verbs and in some cases adjectives and other adverbs. There are adverbs of manner, place, time, degree, frequency and others that can not be classified in any of the previous categories. Gerunds are the -ing form of a verb. The gerunds are used as nouns. Pronouns are words that can substitute a noun. Prepositions connect nouns and pronouns to other words in a sentence. The main types of prepositions are time, place and movement. Conjunctions join words, phrases, and clauses.
