This unit covered the qualities of a good teacher and the different roles the teacher may take on during lessons as well as the qualities of a good learner and different factors that may affect a learner in their language learning journey. I have often thought about what makes a good teacher and what qualities I need to foster more within myself such as involving all students, learning how to form trusting relationships with the students, and correcting errors without damaging the confidence of the learners; however, I haven't considered very deeply the different factors that may affect a learner and how taking these factors into consideration may help adjust my teaching style to be the most effective in each setting. For example, realizing that life experience may make it harder to tailor a lesson plan to younger learners or that motivation is a good way to ensure lessons are preparing the learner for what he or she really wants from the class. I also learned about different ways to be a teacher and that these roles may change several times within one lesson. Learning how to adjust my style to suit my learners while still remaining effective will take practice and I'm excited to get started!
