This unit provides an extensive list of equipment and other teaching aid hat can be used in the classroom when teaching English. To make the educational process more effective and appealing to the students, teachers need to use many teaching aids. Nowadays, in this age of science and technology, there is a great variety of teaching aids available on the market. Some of the most common teaching aids include visual aids like the blackboard, realia or pictures; audio aids like cassette tapes or CDs; and audio visual aids such as video tapes and so on. Teaching aids play a very important role in the teaching- learning process. They have many useful purposes. They can increase the students` motivation, can help a teacher give clearer explanations of a language item, can help the students grasp quicker and more effectively the meaning of a vocabulary item, can reduce teacher talking time, can make the classrooms more lively and active, can provide authentic learning experience to the students by bringing the outside world into the classroom. Since there are so many good reasons why teaching aids should be used in the classroom, I will try to make the best use of them when teaching my own classes.
