Teach English in Dongquan Zhen - Liuzhou Shi
This was the introduction unit. In this unit, good qualities of teachers and learners were covered, as well as a basic understanding of language levels. The first portion of the unit covered the expected roles and good qualities of a teacher. These roles include being a manager, the organizer, the assessor, the prompter, a participant, a monitor, a resource, a tutor, and a model. Some good qualities would be an eagerness to teach, energetic, patient, knowing the subject well, an ability to involve all of the students, and the ability to focus on individual weaknesses as needed. The next section focused on the students themselves. This section covered what qualities went into a good student and language levels. Some good student qualities included a desire to learn, willingness to ask questions, ability to experiment and make mistakes, accepting corrections, and a general desire to learn. Some factors that play in to this are age, motivation, past learning experience and expectations, and nervousness. Older students tend to be less flexible in how they expect to learn, but are also usually more motivated while younger students are more flexible in classroom structure but typically less motivated.
