The unit discusses, among other things, the various roles of a TEFL/TESOL teacher, e.g., manager, facilitator, organizer, participant, tutor, model, monitor, etc. and when to assume a given role relative to classroom activities. It also discusses the attributes of a good teacher, e.g., a pleasing and pleasant personality, a love for teaching and an excellent command of the subject matter, a good rapport with the student body, an ability to involve students in classroom activities, and an ability to motivate and to correct students without offending them. This unit also discussed the various attributes of a good learner such as a willingness to listen and to ask questions, an acceptance of error correction and a desire to learn, of which are impacted by the learner?s age, life experience, and culture. The unit also discusses the 6 skills levels of English proficiency among learners coupled with the six skills levels of Europe states along with some of the reasons students are motivated to learn English, e.g., to enhance career opportunities, to study or live in an English-speaking country, an interest in languages and to facilitate communication when traveling in English speaking countries.
