This unit went over the various parts of speech such as the subject, verb and object placements. This is a basic sentence structure but many sentences have more words in them. This unit covered what the many different parts of the sentence can be and how to classify these parts. It began with basic words such as nouns, pronouns and then introduced words that can specify the noun, such as adjectives and articles. Then we categorized the different kinds of verbs and clarified that verbs are not only action words but also words that determine state; for example, be or seem. We studied a chart of the various forms a verb can take and how the verb interacts with other words in the sentence, such as the placement of the object in relation to a transitive, intransitive, infinitive or auxiliary verb. Then we looked at some other sentence components including adverbs, gerunds, prepositions and conjunctions and how they are used in the sentence. I have learned about the many functions of various words in an English sentence and how to properly define their forms. I have also learned the terminology of the words. Many descriptions were a reminder for me and some felt like I was relearning my language.
