Teach English in Bailu Jiedao - Liuzhou Shi
Unit twelve explained teaching strategies for productive skills: Speaking and Writing. The unit described the difference between accuracy and fluency, mentioning that they are equally important as well as how and when to focus on each. The unit also went over encouragement (particularly when students need to practice speaking) and why it is so important to encourage students and keep their motivation high. Unit twelve also explained why students may struggle with writing (their native language likely has different grammar and punctuation) and how a TEFL teacher might overcome those student challenges in the classroom (such as: exposing students to lots of varied reading material so they can see how to write for different circumstances and how to use the grammar they learn). The unit also briefly went over the functionality of games in the classroom; why they are useful (engaging) and encouraged the creative use of communication games by teachers. I feel that I learned how to continuously give encouragement throughout a lesson to keep my future students wanting to speak and learn and try. I also learned which activities suit accuracy and which suit fluency and why it is important to incorporate both.
