It seems very important not to rush into teaching grammar etc during the first lesson. We should take the time to make the students comfortable with each other and with us by learning about one another and this first lesson should also be used to get a global idea of the individual levels in the class as well as the needs of the students in order to prepare the next classes. At the start of a lesson during the engage phase the use of warmers is also very encouraged but we should keep the fun and short. Their aim is to motivate and make the students comfortable and confident before going into deaper Learning and practice. It is even more useful if the warmers are linked in to what will come in the study phase of the lesson. In this unit I also learnt 4 different ways to handle a class with different level students in it, as well as how to manage and involve everybody equally when teaching a large class. I also got some nice tips on how to get the students to use their native language as rarely as possible. I learnt how to encourage reluctant students to speak during and outside the class and how to manage the listening difficulties faced by so many students. It was very interesting. Thank you ITTT!!
