In this unit, I learned about the different roles that a teacher may assume while in the classroom. Each role serves a unique purpose, and it?s important to have a balance depending on what the objectives of a particular lesson are. Too much emphasis on one role may be detrimental to the overall progression of the students. For example, if a teacher constantly plays the role of organizer, students may become confused and lack insight as to what the objectives of the lesson are. In order to avoid situations such as this, each role should be carefully considered when planning out lessons. This unit also discussed many different factors to keep in mind when working with learners. It?s necessary to take into consideration issues such as age, life experience, and motivation in order to create interesting and relevant lessons. Also, an awareness of the language level of the learner is crucial. Material that is too easy will not help an advanced learner progress, and material that is too difficult will oftentimes frustrate lower-level learners.
