Unit 3 covered the theories, methods and techniques of EFL, how to handle mistakes, how to provide feedback, and when - and when not to - correct the learners. I learned about the nine most common methods for teaching. The method I select will be based on specific class variables like the culture of the students and their needs, as well as my teaching style and personality. I see value in pieces of each method but overall I need to ensure that during a lesson the learners receive as much exposure to the language as possible and balanced feedback from me and the rest of the class. I need to create a positive learning environment where anxiety and stress levels are low and encourage learners to discover the language for themselves through engagement, study and applying what they've learned. This unit provided a wealth of activity ideas for each of the phases: Engage, Study and Activate. I've used many of them during my time as a corporate trainer, such as Partner Information Share, Memory Games, Drills, Hangman, Role-Play, and Communication games.
