In this lesson I learned about classroom management. The first part of the lesson covered eye contact, gesture, the voice, and using students? names. These are all very useful tools for communicating effectively and keeping the students engaged among other things. The next section focused on grouping students. There are a few different ways to group students together: whole-class, pairs, students working on their own. Of course they each have their own sets of pros and cons and should be used in balance with each other. Next the lesson discusses classroom arrangement, which can affect the overall feel and formality of the classroom. Other lessons learned include: minimize time spent with your back to the students, use individual attention wisely and don?t only spend it on a few students, minimize teacher talk time and maximize student talking time, give simple and consistent instructions, establish a good rapport with your students which will help with discipline, and when maintaining discipline, always focus on the behavior, not the person.
