This unit was all about different parts of speech in the English language. This unit refreshed my memory on a lot of concepts that I learned years ago in elementary, middle and high school. As a native English speaker, I use gerunds every day, but I had completely forgotten that that's what they were called. It amazed me reading through this lesson how much of my mastery of English I now take for granted. I can read, write, speak and communicate effectively in English almost instinctively without ever really thinking about what parts of speech I'm using in any given sentence or paragraph. After reading this lesson, I can understand why non-native English speakers can be overwhelmed by some of the rules of the English language. Just learning the different parts of speech in a sentence could be difficult to say nothing of how to put them together to complete a thought. It was good for me to review this lesson and I know that I will be coming back to it over and over again in the future, if only just to remind myself about the rules contained in it.
