Unit 10 used 2 videos of an ESL teacher teaching a class of Thai students modal auxiliary verbs. In the first video, the teacher used difficult language and was intimidating towards the students. He also spoke too fast and didn't give simple, clear instructions. The students found the teacher difficult to follow and weren't so active in volunteering answers. In the second lesson, the teacher used much more appropriate language, was friendly, and encouraged the students to participate. He elicited vocabulary and the grammar point from the students. The students were engaged and seemed to enjoy the class. One thing I thought the teacher could have improved on in the second lesson was the \"engage\" activity. I thought he drew it out too long. Also, he could have had the students be more active by having them write their answers on the boards, perhaps in a race to write as many animals down as possible. This way, he wouldn't have to spend the time writing the vocabulary up on the board, he can check the students spelling, and the student can have more fun.
