This unit explains about the importance of pronunciation and phonology. Pronunciation is considered the most understated part of learning English because most of the teachers are not confident enough and they are not equipped with the right training on how to teach this subject to students. Stress, rhythm, and intonation are also important in English. Different intonation conveys different intention of a speaker. There are some types of intonations that are discussed in that unit: rise/fall, fall/rise, and flat intonation. There are many ways to teach it: nonsense words, by gesture, humming, and using the board. Stress is about putting more emphasis in particular words or syllables in a sentence. By recognizing which word is stressed, we can have better knowledge about what the speaker's main point in telling that to us. We can use these methods to teach the stress: by using gesture, choral work, using stress marks and writing that on the board. On the later part, I have learnt about phonemic symbols, how to read it and how to teach students to read it.
