This unit explains about how to teach productive skills (speaking and writing) to students. There are two different areas in speaking which are equally important, accuracy and fluency. In ESA-based lesson, teacher has to care more about accuracy in Study phase, while fluency must be the main focus in Activate stage. I have learnt about varied speaking activities from this unit. Some of them are controlled activities (drilling, prompting), guided activities (guided role-play), and creative communication (free role-play, open discussion). Teacher should always encourage the students to speak in English by giving them some time to think before saying something, letting them do projects in pair or group work, and giving plenty of guided tasks before giving fluency-based activities. I became more considerate when it comes to teaching writing skills after finishing this unit, since some native languages have totally different alphabetical system than English. The last part of this unit shows lists of possible games that could be incorporated into the classroom.
