While somewhat intuitive and basic, this unit was a also helpful tool for examining the many roles of the teacher in the classroom. Manager, organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, resource/facilitator, model, and observer/monitor. For me, I found it useful to identify specific terms associated with attitudes/practices I have previously employed in classroom settings. I agree with a more \"student-centered\" approach and was able to consider ways in which I, as a teacher, can mix and match roles according to culture, experience level, age, and interests. As I am preparing to teach in Asia, it was also helpful for me to begin considering and researching cultural norms and the motivations of potential future students. This unit also helped me prepare for and consider the many variations in learners: how nervous is this learner? How confident is this learner? Does this learner need encouragement? Does this learner require more challenging tasks/vocabulary? I was able to ask myself these questions and more in preparation for a real classroom.
