Teach English in DAnxia Zhen [Shuitang Zhen] - Liupanshui Shi
I've learned about what to do and what not to do in a first lesson, as well as the two categories of classes -- the (1) new group and the (2) existing group. This unit has reminded me to make sure that rapport is established before moving on to the study part of the lesson. This is to ensure that all students are comfortable with each other before having them do any activity that would require pair or group dynamics. I also learned about ideas on how to handle a class with students from different levels. Indeed this can pose a challenge to most teachers, but knowing the proper methods can make it an ease for both teacher and students. I've learned not to respond to a student whenever he/she speaks to me in his/her native language. This is to encourage him/her to do his/her best in expressing ideas in English even with incomplete / broken grammar. This does not mean, though, that students won't be allowed to speak / use their native tongue in the classroom. Students may use their native tongue outside speaking activities or only when absolutely necessary.
