Teach English in Baotian Zhen - Liupanshui Shi
Unit 18 discusses modals, phrasal verbs and the passive voice. These 3 concepts for me are all very informative as a native speaker. I rarely think about grammar because concepts have become second nature. Understanding the use of modal verbs was the easiest concept in my opinion. It is simply understanding the relationship between the modal verbs with other verbs in the sentence, it feels the most natural. Passive voice is concept that we tackle in higher level English courses and college professors often discourage using passive voice in papers so it is a concept I understand but trying to teach it was a difficult concept before this unit. I like having the diagram charts provided as a tool. Phrasal verbs and relative clauses are two concepts that as a native speaker I don't even think about so the instruction in this unit seemed a bit over complicated and wordy in the explanation of the concepts but after reviewing the material a few times I am working on a few ways to explain concepts to students and will be researching other sources for grammar teaching.
