This last unit set-up some guidelines for approaching the structure of a first lesson and some of the difficulties that can present themselves to new TEFL educators. First lessons should be relatively informal and build as much rapport as possible between the teacher and the students and among the students themselves -- the amount of rapport that needs to be built is significantly dependant on whether or not the group is new or an existing one. Large classes present their own set of issues and require the use of specific techniques to tackle those issues; choral drilling, group work, and worksheets are some of the common methods used to effectively navigate large class management.
