Lesson planning is very important, especially for new teachers who do not have the experience necessary to improvise. Good lesson planning keeps the teacher's goals in mind, both for the learners and for the teacher. Lesson planning should also involve anticipating problems that may arise for the students and teacher and how the teacher will resolve such problems. A lesson plan should include the activities the teacher will conduct, what phase those activities belong in, and how much time to allot to each activity. A lesson plan is not a script and the teacher should not prioritize sticking exactly to the plan over responding to the needs of students and the reality of the classroom.
