This unit presents and explains the four different past tenses: the past simple, the past continuous, the past perfect, and the past perfect continuous. It addresses the common errors and mistakes with their formation and usage. It also provides different ideas to teach each of the tenses. An example of a possible activity for the activate stage is to have students think about a story involving a crime and present a role-play scene in which a police officer questions witnesses regarding the event. In this activity students can demonstrate what they have learnt about the past tenses and the teacher can assess what the students know and if she needs to clarify any aspect of the lesson.
