While I have quite a bit of experience with teaching, I was not aware of all the different roles a teacher assumes during instruction. As I reflected on this, I realized that these are, indeed, the necessary roles and that the transition is not always clear. As a teacher, you move automatically from one role to another and then to another or back to the original role, but the roles are fluid. A teacher quality that was missing for me was the desire to learn. I wonder if a teacher can be a good teacher if they are not willing to learn - would that not, in fact, be part of the motivation that a good teacher provides? How would a teacher motivate others if he/she finds learning boring?
