Receptive and productive skills are equally important; however, a student cannot develop their productive skills without first learning the content by reading and listening. The objective of the lesson can be carried out much more successfully if the students are motivated and have an interest in the topic, but the teacher must not really on using the same topic for too long. It could potentially become boring and it may exclude students who have no interest in it. The amount of challenge must also be reasonable. It is encouraged to pre-teach difficult vocabulary before students start reading or listening. Reading material must also be carefully selected, so as to not overwhelm them.
