This unit highlights the advantages and disadvantages of both authentic and created materials. While coursebooks provide security for the students and the teacher, they tend to stifle the creativity of all parties as they are not tailored to the specific needs of each group of students. As a teacher, I need to plan each lesson using a combination of coursebook material, created material and authentic material (depending on the level of the class)to ensure that each lesson is interesting, relevant and designed to meet the specific needs of each class. In this way I will continue to develop and hone my skills, instead of stagnating and running the risk of becoming repetitive and boring.
