This unit was about the receptive skills (reading and listening) that most people tend to encounter when faced with a new language. It is important to distinguish that we use both skills for different reasons depending on the task at hand. Reading and listening require concentration and use of our eyes, ears and minds in order to understand information and make sense of our surroundings. In the classroom, students may run into difficulties when practicing these skills. Therefore as a teacher, it is my responsibility to ensure that students not only understand anything they read or hear but that I also keep them engaged by choosing topics and activities that interest and motivate them.
