Unit sixteen discusses the influence of reported speech and conditionals on grammatical usage. The differences between active speech and reported speech are explained and explored through diagrams, charts, and example sentences. I can see how these changes could be difficult to understand for new English learners, and I understand the importance of covering this facet of the English language slowly and steadily. I think that a constant use of examples and exercises will help this information to click with the students. Role playing appears to be the most helpful exercise with this material. I do think that I will have to refer to this unit when teaching about these grammatical usages.
