This unit starts with looking at different learning and developmental theories and the difference between how we learn our native tongue and a second language. It goes on with adopting an approach for teaching English to young learners who are further split into two age bands - the first group ages 5 to 9, and the second group - ages 9 to 13. The learning environment is further discussed along with the skills our students need to develop at different stages of their English language acquisition process. Finally, the process of maturation is taken into account and it is discussed how the teacher needs to adapt her teaching according to where the students are in their maturation process.
