This unit introduces some of the equipment and aids commonly used in the EFL classroom and gives tips on their functions and usage. Boards include both the classic chalkboard or whiteboard and electronic alternatives such as interactive whiteboards and overhead projectors. Multimedia such as cassettes and cassette recorder, CDs and CD player, videos or DVDs and a video camera may all be used, as well as visual aids such as flashcards or objects. Resource books, dictionaries, worksheets and the previously discussed course books and sets can be of great assistance, while computers can be used for everything from reference tools and audio/video resources to practice sending emails, and are becoming more and more prominent in the classroom. I appreciated the suggested resources and sites provided in this lesson, as well as the pointers and precautions for various teaching aids. Something to note as far as board organization is that certain institutions and schools will have specific requirements for how to organize the board that one will need to be familiar with. Another point to keep in mind is that overuse of multimedia can have a negative effect and should be balanced with other aids and activities.
