Within Unit 1 we covered a wide range of basic introductory topics related to the role of an educator, considerations pertaining to students such as scaffolding learning material based on their language ability and age along with definitions on what is a 'good' educator and student. Personally, I enjoyed reading the different roles that an educator has while instructing and building relationships with students. The breakdown also brought to my attention the delicate balance in play during the teaching hours such as; managing the classroom, prompting students, assessing them and participating etc. In the quiz, it stated what some of the consequences might be if an educator is not timely and consistent in these rules. For example, inability to monitor everyone, loss of respect from the student and cultural embarrassment. One thing that I found familiar was the categorization of language levels in common European Framework. I am not absolutely sure but it seems as though some American colleges might have adopted that framework. For example. I noticed they use course titles such as elementary 2A for a foreign language. I also found it useful in case I would ever need to use their framework for employment.
