Classroom management is one of the necessary skills for a good teacher. It concerns organising the class, having a friendly, relaxed manner and maintaining discipline. Eye contact, gesture and the voice play an important role in establishing good rapport with the students. A teacher should know and use the students' names. Different activities in class may be influenced by grouping students, the types of which are: whole-class, students working on their own, pairwork and groupwork. Each type has its pros and cons. Class arrangement is also very important. It depends on several factors, such as: space available, type of desks and chairs, age, nationality and personality of students. Forms of students' seating (orderly rows, circles and horseshoes, separate tables) and the teacher's position can influence the effectiveness of a lesson or its stage. A good teacher should give individual attention to the students, reduce the amount of time he/she spends with his/her back to the class while writing on the board and consider advantages or disadvantages of Teacher talking time and Student talking time. He/she should also have good skills of giving instructions, establishing rapport and maintaining discipline.
