The Past Tenses Unit is composed of all the tenses that the learners can use to express a particular event in the past, weather short or long, an event that happened or was running before another one, an event which interrupted or was running with another temporary event in the past. By a deeper study of this unit, the learner will be able to make differences between all the tense as well as the usages of each one. So for instence, when we say: last year I went to Paris, it means that I am talking about an action that occured at a definite time in the past. When we say: While I was travelling in Paris, I was watching the fantsatic architecture, it means that I was doing two long and temporary actions at the same time in the past. When we say: By the time I went to Paris, I had already graduated from university, it denotes that I am expressing to events chronologically. And when I also say: Before I went to Paris I had been studying at univesrsity, I mean that there was a long temporary action running before another event that started in the past and thus to show the chronological order. To sum up, the past tenses are four and each one differs from the other according to the context and time of the event.
