Like the title says, unit 4 is about materials that we can use in the classroom to aid our teaching. We basically distinguish two types of materials, authentic and non authentic. Authentic material is everything that is not produced for the purpose of teaching, such as newspapers, a company brochure or letters. Non authentic material instead is what we create for our students, it's less realistic but graded for a specific level. When choosing these materials we need to be very careful and take into consideration the teaching point of the lesson, for which activity we will use them, how to explain their usage to our students and if everyone will be able to understand them. We then talked about lesson planning within the ESA methodology. This working document called lesson plan is basically the point of reference of our syllabus and so it should be detailed as much as possible. Even though we try to stick to it as much as we can, we need to take into consideration our students' and their understanding so we need to be prepared to alter our lesson plan if necessary. Lastly we talked about resources, books, articles and the internet, that recently have seen a growth in the Business English teaching world.
