Some might think that if there is minimal planning that goes into a lesson the learning objectives may not be met. Some might think that lesson planning results in a rigid teaching approach. Between the extremes of \"no lesson planning\" and \"scripting every word\" of each phase of the lesson lies the best approach to the effective use of lesson planning. An effective lesson plan becomes an aid to making sure the stated learning objectives are met and helps the teacher keep on track with time. The plan becomes a working document that the teacher may refer to as s/he is teaching. It also acts as a record of progress which helps the teacher, the students and even a substitute teacher. Some plans are formal, some are more informal. With experience, each teacher will find system that works well for them and, more importantly, their class. However, most plans should include the basic components; such as, Learner Objectives, Personal Goals for the teacher, the Language Point being covered, Class Level, Class Size - to name a few. As teachers build their lesson plans, and especially a sequence of lessons, it's important to to consider flexibility, goals, continual revisions, variety and balance throughout.
