From this unit I have learned the ups and downs for creating lesson plans. When following a lesson plan a lesson might become a little too fixed and flexible enough for the students needs. However if a teacher, especially new teachers, shows up to class with no lesson plan they might lack direction in class causing the students to lack interest and stop paying attention. Therefore it is important to find a balance of a planned lesson but being able to be flexible as well and keep the class rolling smoothly and keep the students interested. For example, if you have a lesson plan with three study phase activities planned you might not be able to finish all three in one lesson. Because the students might have more trouble than you anticipated on one of the activities not allowing you to get to all three activities as it is important for you not to rush the students and make sure they understand the material. Also when creating lesson plans it helps keep records of what you have already taught the class which can help prevent the teacher to reteach the same material twice. I think it is a good to come prepared with a lesson plan especially when starting out with your teaching career but be open to flexibility.
