This unit introduced me to teaching pronunciation and phonology, it taught me a great deal about this aspect of English language teaching. Just a few of the several things I learnt from this particular unit was the difference between intonation and stress, something I had believed to be the same thing before the starting of this unit. Now I know that Intonation is the variation of the pitch and volume across a whole sentence whilst stress brings emphasis to a particular word within a sentence. Another thing I learnt from this unit was the phonemic alphabet itself, its use and the more mechanical aspects of speech such as articulation and the teaching of individual sounds. Throughout the unit I was given a breadth of examples and suggestions of helpful activities that can be used in the teaching of this subject for my students, as well as an example of a mouth diagram as an teaching aid, something that had been mentioned in previous units but I had yet to see. Overall this unit has increased my knowledge, understanding and confidence in a subject I had long had worries of tackling whilst making my way through this course and is overall a subject I look forward to continue to develop on as I continue forward.
