This unit was about the receptive skills; reading and listening. In my opinion, reading and listening are the easiest things to learn when learning a language. I had never really thought about the different motives for reading and listening until they were pointed out in the lesson. I think it is important to have texts for the students to read, but it is definitely important to discuss some of the more difficult important vocabulary first. There were many times in some of my language classes in college that we would be given a very difficult text to read, but there was no sort of word bank at the beginning to help us through the more difficult parts. A lot of the time, I got nothing out of those texts. It was much more helpful when we had some of the important words first so when we came across them, we could figure out what the sentence was trying to say. It is very important for the students to learn how to figure some things out just by the context clues and such instead of needing to understand each and every word. I think keeping in mind the students interests will be very important to me. It is much more fun to learn something using the means of a fun topic than something you have no interest in at all.
