Teach English in Zhanlong Zhen - Jieyang Shi
Class management is derived from various areas' continuous maintenance on the part of the teacher, each with pros and cons that need to be managed to ensure the establishment of good rapport between student and teacher, as well as the delivery of clear and concise classes with few interruptions due to poor behavior. Seating arrangements in the classroom are made with a number of factors in mind that affect both teacher and student, including roles, personality, activity and rapport. Many management issues in the classroom can be improved with the use of gestures, alterations in the voice and eye contact, and consistent use of these will ensure familiarity between student and teacher and quell possible future behavioral issues. Correct classroom management aims at bringing out the best in the students in terms of learning potential and behavior while ensuring the teacher is able to carry out the roles needed for each learning stage of the class. It also aims to reduce teacher talk time and promotes student talk time by placing emphasis on pair and group work. Inevitable behavioral issues will arise and on the occasion they do it is important to remember that bad behavior stems from multiple areas including those that a teacher will have no control over. As such, the teacher must remain calm and focus on the behavior as the root of the issue and not the student. Correct management of behavioral problems will help to maintain a good rapport with the students as well as maintain respect between them. I feel that most of the class management issues can be correctly handled so long as the teacher maintains a positive attitude about the job and the students regardless of what negative situations may arise. Students respond well to positive attitudes and are bound to show more respect to a teacher with a positive attitude. Reciprocating that respect is equally vital to maintaining the rapport between student and teacher.
