Assess a Student's Language Level Tutorials: Whole group or individual students. Use the last bit of time in class to review work done, discuss the aims of the lesson, who well the student is performing the task or whether there are any problems., ect. Evaluation by the students: Ask students to evaluate their course via a questionnaire or guided discussion. Ask they feel they are getting enough grammar or if the work is to hard or easy or just right. This promotes genuine interaction, develops a much greater awareness among students. Tests: Placement Test - assist the formation of groups check their knowledge of grammar & vocabulary, spoken interview and ability to communicate. Test start fairly simple then become progressively more difficult. Diagnostic Test - designed to tell you & students what they do and don't know at the beginning of the course Similar in content to placement test, but sometimes more extensive. Test given at the start of the course to see what the student already knows. Helps teacher to prepare lessons & materials to enable students to work on the areas of difficulty. Progress Test - Should be used periodically to gauge what language has been remembered or acquired and what language has been forgotten or what language item needs more work. Test should include a balance of: Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, Grammar & Vocabulary Practice Test - Should follow the format & structure of the external examination; in preparation for it. Periodic Progress Test - test based on worked covered via written test or group activity. Gives information to both teacher & student as to how they are progressing Achievement Test - internal test given at the end of a course or school year External Examinations - Are not course related but claim to measure proficiency in English Together with written test, determine the entrance level of students.
