Teach English in GAotian Nongchang - Jieyang Shi
The unit takes a detailed examination of modal auxilliary verbs and the passive voice, focusing on basic rules, usages with example though a simplified chart and teaching ideas. For modal auxilliary verbs ( can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must , have to, have got to, need to, needn?t and ought ), the unit notes they do not change in form according to person, are followed by a verb in its base form, for example ,I shoud go, we should , they should go.The unit uses a number of gouped examples to clarify how the use of modal verbs can change the formality and meaning of the main verb. For the passive voice formed by using the auxilliary verb ?be? plus the past participle, the unit states the two voices used in English; the active and the passive voices .Here the difference in focus in both voices is clarified. The unit also mentions the realtive clause ,defining it as a group of words containing a subject and verb and states three categories; independent ,dependent and relative clauses. It further explains that two kinds of relative clauses exist; defining and non-defining, noting that the information given in a defining clause is essential to the meaning of the sentence whereas the information given in a non-defining clause is not essential in the meaning of the sentence and can be omitted, thus commas are critical in non-defining clauses. The unit also introduces three kinds of phrasal verbs; intransitive, transitive seperable and transitive inseperable verbs. From this unit I have learnt many important notes like the focus of the active and passive voices, being on the agent and on the subject respectively, only transitive verbs are used in the passive voice, perfect continuous tenses are not normally used in the passive voice, the tense of the sentence does not change for active and passive voices.I have also learnt the positioning of an object pronoun and object nouns. The knowledge on these important points also gives me more confidence when teaching
