Unit 2 is devoted to Teaching & Learning. 1. Learning nd behaviour theories are splitted into: 1) constructivists; 2) Maturationists; 3) Environmentalists; 4) Other. 2. The paragraph relating to native language and L2 acquisition discussed how its possible to learn to speak before we go to school (role-models, trying out, interaction, stories / songs, inaimate stimuli). Language is NOT a linear process, which means we don't learn the easier bits first. Language is learnt through its use. Young learners do not acquire the language as a conscious process. Children should be given the opportunity to solve problems using the language, interacting with peers. Total immersion is one of the more efficient learning styles. The use of L1 should not be totally excluded, part.at lower levels. Make L2 learning as similar to L1 as possible, since it's the only proven method that works. Show the relevance and present a need to learn L2 3. As regards adopting an approach, it is recommendable to use one particular approach ot methodology as an eclectic one can be confusing for students. 4. The age band split was given (5-9 y.o. & 9-13 y.o.) together with methodology advice. 5. Series of stages and sections of a lesson were discussed. ESA can vary in the following way: a) Straight Arrow; b) Boomerang; c) Patchwork. 6. The learning environment section related to organization of physical surroundings where teaching takes place. Tables can be arranged in circles, rows, semi-circles or groups. A teacher's position, resources, students' work was discussed. 7. Teacher's roles are variable: an instructor, a facilitator, a mentor, a psychologist, a coucnelor. 8. Skills are divided into productive (writing and speaking) and receptive (listening and reading). 9. The ALTE framework was given. 10. As per maturation, it's a psycholinguistic development process. Groups of 5-9 and 9-13 were analyzed separately in a comparative way. Likes and dislikes of student of the relevant age were listed.
