Teach English in Dongjing Chachang - Jieyang Shi
This unit focuses on teaching English to different types of students in addition to just adult students. These types of students are: beginners, individual students, children, business clients and monolingual/multilingual students. Beginning students fall into groupings such as the absolutely beginner, the false beginner, the adult beginner, the young beginner, and the beginner without the use of the Roman alphabet. Important for dealing with these various types of beginners are such factors as having the special skills and psychology to handle the needs of beginners, and the ability for giving clear, simple instructions to this special group. Individual students will benefit from completing a needs analysis form at the initial meeting. In addition, the individual may benefit from reading short stories, articles from newspapers and magazines, and from sharing their personal history such as family and education. Children can be very rewarding to teach and work with provided the teacher follows such guidelines as always using English for instruction, speaking slowly in short and direct sentences, and acting out meaning by using pictures, props, and mime gestures and movements. Business English refers to teaching work-related English as well as business content and skills to both professionals and pre-professionals. Business teaching can be one-on-one or in-company or in-school. This group also benefits from filling out a needs analysis so that the teacher is aware of what precisely the client wants and needs concerning English for his/her job. Effective English use can be very important for socializing with work colleagues and clients, as well as for making presentations. Monolingual and multilingual classes can present their own issues, concerns and techniques for teaching English. For example, monolingual classes usually take place in the students' home country, while multilingual classes are typically from different countries and can only speak English together as their common language.
