It was very interesting to watch these two contrasting lessons. To compare the difference between two approaches of the same teacher. It is shame to talk about the first lesson. At the very beginning when the teacher entered the classroom, it was apparent how students perceived him as rude and not open to their ideas and questions. He presented all of the topics as very easy to understand as if all the students were already supposed to know the grammar. He didn't have any engage phase. He just went on with the topic right away without even properly introducing it. He kept repeating his questions even though it was apparent the students are not sure what he means or don't understand what he's trying to tell them or ask them about. He didn't use any pictures/ flashcards/ examples or games to engage the students into the lesson. Very soon they began bored with the stuff and didn't want to cooperate with him. From the very beginning of the lesson to the very end of the lesson he came across as irritated with what he's teaching and to whom he is teaching it. One of his other weaknesses and fails was not smiling during the lesson which brings me to the second lesson where it was exact opposite. Teacher in the second lesson was positive he seemed open minded, nice, energetic, he cared about the students, on case they didn't understand the topic, he explained them. He used many pictures, when it comes to the engage phase where he asked them to think about as many animals as they can- it came across to me like a good idea. It was an easy activity for the start of the lesson however afterwards it gently brought him to the point he wanted to start teaching them the new grammar. I think the way he connected engage phase with the study phase was effective because the students were able to get softly into the subject of the lesson. He gave the students space to make their own opinions, he asked many questions regarding the subject. Hey remained calm and positive even though the students didn't always answer correctly. And he SMILED !! :)
