There are many ways to arrange seating in the classroom, each has its pros and cons There are times the teacher should stand particularly when leading conversation, or directing the classroom. Teachers should sit to take a back seat in student lead activities. Writing on the board while leading class activity is unavoidable but can be minimized. Try to give all students equal attention, and don't allow some to hog the limelight, and allow some students who can't contribute to remain silent. The advantage of teachers talking is that the student is exposed to correct English. The disadvantages are students are not talking themselves. There many ways to reduce the amount of time teachers talk including use jestures and mimes, don't use TEFL jargon, don't over-elaborate. some ways to make giving out instruction better include: using simple language, being consistent, and using visual clues. Establishing Rapport is an important factor in classroom success. Some ways to encourage good rapport are to take interest in each student, smile, look as if you enjoy the job, lots of good group activities ect... an important key to good classroom discipline is to strike a good balance between controlled atmosphere and relaxed atmosphere good rapport, consistency, and pride in your work as a teacher are essential to preventing problem behavior. acting immediately is a key to solving problem behavior, others include focusing on behavior rather than the student, keep calm, and change class dynamic.
