Teach English in BaishA Zhen - Jiangmen Shi
There are a number of ways to assess a student?s language level: tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. At the start of a course students can get a placement test that allows to assist the formation of groups of students at the same level. Another type of tests ? diagnostic ? is used to tell the teacher and the students what they do and don?t know at the beginning of a course. Progress test allows to gauge what language has been remembered or acquired and what language has been forgotten. If the students are following a course leading to an external examination, they?re usually eager to do practice tests to get some idea how close they?re to the required standard, and also to be more familiar with the examination structure. An achievement test is usually an internal test given at the end of the course. External examinations are offered by Cambridge Assessment and proficiency tests are not course related but measure proficiency in English at particular levels such as The Common European Framework levels. General external examinations include TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language; an American exam), IELTS (International English Language Testing System for UK and European counties), TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication for Japan and South Korea, and now becoming popular in Europe; it measures the ability to use the language in everyday work activities; related to business environments and contain business vocabulary). TOEFL and IELTS are recognized by universities, colleges, employers, immigration authorities. Cambridge Assessment include General English exams (KET (an elementary level exam); PET (an intermediate level); FCE (an upper-intermediate level); CAE (an advanced level); CPE (a very advanced level)), Skills for life (ESOL Skills for life for ESOL learners (adults) in England, Wales, Northern Ireland), Business English (BEC for career in business); BULATS (service for companies that require a rapid, accurate means of assessing language skills in English, Spanish, French, German). There are many other external examinations.
