Unit Three: Class Management; this unit outlines the teachers role and capabilities with the class, to engage students in a proactive and appropriate way. How to properly arrange the class to convey the learning objective and facilitate class study and involvement. Discipline and teacher control are also highlighted. To this end there are several methods to support a desired outcome, these range from eye contact with students and how they are interacted with, how the classroom is set up and what activities are selected. The utilization of teaching tools such as the blackboard and props, as well as the teachers overall presence and report is also discussed. Eye contact should be shared over the class and not be intimidating, but warm and friendly, encouraging, and used to cue the students and see how they feel about what they are doing. This can be enhanced through various seating plans and the methods used to engage the class. Groups can then be made for the active phase of the lesson. The use of the board and other props are effective but teacher eye contact and student engagement are important during their use. When using the board the teacher should still turn and address the class directly from time to time. This builds student report and engagement, earns respect and keeps attention. Teacher punctuality, preparedness and confidence are also important. Respect must be earned and maintained. This will make the lessons more cohesive and prevent behavioral issues, help everyone to get along. This being said, if there is a consistent problem with a student's behavior it should be dealt with immediately, without shouting, in a calm matter; never make threats that can not be seen through or are out of line with school policy. If behavior is bad address the student after class, pairing the student differently may also help. It is important to have a prepared, confident, friendly, and always positive demeanor. You must show that you want to be there, that you love your job. These attributes will help greatly with discipline, report, respect, and most of all set up a positive and effective learning environment.
