As with other grammar rules, I understand this rule when I hear it spoken properly. But when learning it, it takes me a few minutes to understand the reasoning behind the rule. Looking at language this way makes it feel like a math problem. It is not my favorite subject, but I can understand its importance especially for speaking the language properly.The use of the past tense seems to be one of the best indicators of when English is a second language for someone. It's very common to when children are developing language, they will say things like I \"bringed\" it, not recognizing the irregular form is I brought. This lesson was a great breakdown of how to bridge students over when teaching past tense.
